Basket-weaving Class

Conducted by Guest Artisan Debbi Zvanut
October 2010

Guest artisan Debbi Zvanut returned to the cooperative in 2010 and taught a basket-weaving class sponsored by the Lost River Educational Foundation. The foundation operates the Lost River Museum on the lower level of the Harper Barn.

Debbi uses a completed basket to illustrate for a student
the beginning steps of constructing the basket's bottom.

Reed soaks in plastic tubs. These pieces will form the bottom
of the baskets and provide structure for the finished piece.

Debbi assists a student with the beginning of her basket.

The bottom is clearly taking shape here, with spokes radiating from the center.

Pieces of reed splay like oversized spiders as students work on their projects.

Clothespins are used to hold pieces in place as the
thinner reed is wound in and around the spokes.
